  Helping LEAD Independent Lives

COMMUNITY DOGS

We train and support community dogs with their handlers to provide access to our dogs within group activities and represent us at public events.

What does a community dog do?

Our community dogs work with specialist handlers to provide engagement for more group based activities. These dogs are super friendly and love meeting and greeting people, whether this is in therapeutic environment, or as part of a public engagement.

By their very nature these dogs are calm and confident in many different situations. They can be very playful and fun but also have the ability to be very relaxed and settled when required.

Unlike our assistance dogs, our community dogs do not have to have the primary focus of one individual person, instead they are able to bring their natural benefits of physical interaction to a wider audience.

People love meeting our dogs and being able to touch, play and engage in the attention that these dogs give. Nothing gives more satisfaction to our handlers than seeing the smiles on faces of young and old alike.
