Volunteering at Veterans With Dogs is vital to our work.
From supporting our dogs in training to helping us raise vital funds, our volunteers enable us to change lives, both for veterans and their assistance dogs. Whether you can give a few hours a week or help occasionally, your time and skills can make a meaningful difference.
Puppy socialisers
You will welcome a puppy into your home and support them through their early development, helping them grow into a confident, well-adjusted future assistance dog.
This involves:
- Providing a safe, loving home environment
- Introducing the puppy to everyday experiences (people, places, sounds)
- Reinforcing positive behaviours and basic training
- Working closely with our training team
You don’t need to be a dog training expert, we will provide guidance and ongoing support every step of the way.
Puppy respite care
Sometimes our Puppy Socialisers need a short break, and that’s where Respite Carers step in.
Respite care is flexible and can range from a few days to a couple of weeks. It’s a great way to:
- Experience life with a puppy in training
- Support another volunteer
- Contribute without a long-term commitment
We will match you with a dog that suits your experience and availability.
Volunteer dog trainers
We are always looking for skilled, compassionate Volunteer Dog Trainers to support our programme.
Working alongside our professional team, you may:
- Assist with training sessions
- Help reinforce key behaviours
- Support veterans as they work with their dogs
- Contribute to the development of confident, reliable assistance dogs
We are committed to ethical, positive, and enrichment-based training methods, and all volunteers are expected to align with these values.
Fundraising and event volunteers
Our events are a fantastic way to raise awareness, build community, and generate vital income, and we couldn’t do them without our volunteers.
You might help with:
- Event setup and logistics
- Welcoming and engaging supporters
- Selling merchandise or raffle tickets
- Supporting community events and awareness days
These roles are often flexible and sociable, perfect if you enjoy meeting people and being part of a team.
Share your skills
Do you have skills or experience you would like to offer?
We welcome volunteers who can support us in a wide range of ways, including:
- Marketing and social media
- Photography and videography
- Administration or data support
- Corporate partnerships or fundraising
- IT, finance, HR, or governance expertise
