Our impact
Behind every partnership is a life changed.
Veterans With Dogs supports individuals facing some of the most complex and isolating challenges following military service.
Many of the veterans we work with come to us at a point where other support has not worked, where everyday life feels overwhelming, and the future uncertain.
Through our assistance dog partnerships and ongoing, specialist support, we see meaningful and lasting change.
What changes
Our work supports veterans to rebuild their lives across four key areas

Improved mental wellbeing
Veterans report reduced anxiety, fewer symptoms of PTSD, and an increased ability to manage distress.
Reconnection and relationships
Partnerships help rebuild trust, improve communication, and strengthen relationships with family, friends, and the wider community.
Greater independence
With the support of their dog, veterans are more able to leave the house, engage in daily activities, and regain a sense of control over their lives.
Reduced isolation
Dogs provide both companionship and a bridge to the outside world, helping veterans reconnect socially and feel part of their communities again.
Measured outcomes
Outcomes from our most recent internal evaluation demonstrate the scale of this impact
94%
Of veterans report improved mental health within six months of being paired with an assistance dog
92%
feel more confident managing their mental health
87%
experience a reduction in social isolation
85%
Of partners report improved emotional understanding and connection
75%
show measurable improvement using validated tools such as the PCL-5 (PTSD Checklist) and GAD-7 (Generalised Anxiety Disorder Scale)
These outcomes reflect not just short-term improvement, but meaningful, sustained progress.

Impact beyond the individual
The benefits of our work extend beyond the veteran.
Families report improved relationships, greater emotional stability at home, and increased ability to engage in parenting and everyday life. For many, the presence of a trained assistance dog creates a calmer, more connected home environment.

Voices of those we support
The impact of our work is best expressed by those who experience it

Creating long-term change
Our work is designed to create sustainable outcomes. We are not a short-term intervention. By supporting both the veteran and their environment, we help create change that continues well beyond the programme.
This is about more than recovery; it is about rebuilding lives.
Help us meet the demand
Demand for our support continues to grow.
With the right investment, we can reach more veterans, support more families, and extend the life-changing impact of every partnership.
