We’re thrilled to announce that RAF veteran, author, and inspiring public speaker Liz McConaghy – also known as The Chinook Chick – has joined the Veterans With Dogs family as a supporter and ambassador.
Liz brings with her a wealth of experience, insight, and lived understanding of the power of canine companionship. Having faced mental health challenges of her own after leaving the military, Liz often credits her dog with giving her the strength to keep going during her darkest times – a message that aligns beautifully with everything we stand for.
Liz will be taking on the London Marathon in 2026, raising vital funds for our life-changing work and sharing our mission with her own incredible community along the way. She’s also pledged to support some of our upcoming digital fundraising campaigns, helping us raise awareness and reach more veterans who could benefit from an assistance dog.
This partnership is a natural fit. At Veterans With Dogs, we train and provide mental health assistance dogs for veterans across the UK, restoring independence and hope for those living with hidden wounds. Liz’s own journey speaks directly to the transformative bond between veteran and dog, and we couldn’t be more honoured to have her by our side.
“I chose to support Veterans With Dogs as I honestly believe a dog is the most under prescribed, yet most valuable solution to mental health issues.
Having a dog, means you feel less isolated, you have purpose; a reason to live, and you have to get out in the fresh air every day. These small things have a cumulative effect in improving wellbeing, mental health and PTSD related issues. It's an honour to be part of this wonderful charity.”
This is just the beginning of what we know will be a powerful and inspiring partnership. We’re grateful to Liz for her support, and we look forward to walking many more miles together—both literally and figuratively!
Thank you, Liz.
At Veterans With Dogs, we’re always looking to connect with individuals who share our passion and are open to telling their own stories in support of the work we do.
If you'd like to stand with us, just like Liz, and play a part in spreading the word about our mission, we'd love to hear from you.
