A charity run is a great way to raise money for a good cause. Bringing people from all walks of life together, charity running gives a great sense of fulfilment and inspiration. There really is no better feeling than crossing that finishing line knowing that you have made a difference and achieved something momentous.
As well as raising awareness of Veterans With Dogs, marathon running can be a hugely rewarding personal experience and always makes for a memorable day!
Supporters from all different backgrounds having been taking up the challenge and raising vital funds for VWD, achieving lifetime goals and smashing personal challenges at the same time.
Here are just a few of those who have completed major accomplishments whilst supporting us this year:
Kate Brockman, who's father served in served in Iraq and Afghanistan, felt it was important that current and former members of the British Armed Forces receive the help and support they need.
Kate successfully took on the challenge of the Madrid Marathon which she completed and we are delighted at this amazing achievement and for Kate's support.
Karen King has been raising funds whilst challenging herself with runs for a few years now, and this year saw Karen reaching the outstanding achievement of completing the TCS London Marathon - a long standing dream of hers. We couldn't be more pleased for Karen and we are delighted to have her long standing support.
Mark Johnson was one of a number of runners who took part in the TSC London Marathon this year on behalf of VWD.
"Most of you will know me for my love of dogs and the amazing things they are capable of. I am fortunate to work with dogs (photo's above) in my role as a Ministry of Justice Dog Handler & Trainer for HM Prison Service's Nation Dog & Technical Support Group (NDTSG). Therefore when I set my sights on running the TCS London Marathon 2023 I always knew I'd run it for a charity related to Dogs and supporting them.
Following on from my partner's success in the previous years TCS London Marathon and her fundraising for the NFRSA (National Foundation for Retired Service Animals) I happened across the fantastic charity which is VETERANS WITH DOGS.
This charity is close to my heart as I have grown up surrounded by Military influences, ex & current serving Armed Forces members. I also have members of the Armed Forces in my close family and work with a lot of Veterans. Therefore, I am acutely aware of the struggles and adjustments they have to make when transitioning back to civi-street.
With the evolution of Dogs and their roles in Medical Detection, Therapy & Assistance dogs, I felt the VETERANS WITH DOGS was yet another superb movement in roles for dogs (including rescue dogs). "
