Leaving a Lasting Impact: Gift in Your Will

Your legacy can ensure that Veterans With Dogs continues its valuable work well into the future. As a charity primarily funded by donations, a gift in your Will, no matter the size, can have a profound impact on our ability to support veterans in need.

By including Veterans With Dogs in your Will, you contribute to addressing the mental health needs of our courageous heroes who have dedicated their lives to service. Your gift will help provide specially trained assistance dogs and lifelong support to each partnership.

Every single gift is invaluable to us, and we sincerely appreciate any contribution you choose to make. Regardless of its monetary value, your gift will go a long way in transforming the lives of those who rely on our assistance. Importantly, leaving a gift in your Will costs nothing during your lifetime and is exempt from inheritance tax.

No matter the size, every gift makes a tangible difference. It truly is a gift that will leave a lasting impact.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous and thoughtful consideration in making a contribution that will shape the future of our work.

Is there suggested wording to leave a gift in my Will?

Your solicitor should be familiar with the wording required to leave a gift in your Will, however please find below some suggested wording your solicitor may wish to use. Please refer to the glossary for any explanations of terms used.

Wording for a residuary gift (a percentage)

'I give my Residuary Estate [residuary estate will need to have been defined elsewhere in the Will and is a gift made after deductions of debts, taxes and expenses, which usually fall on residue] to VETERANS WITH DOGS, 2 Northleigh House, Thorverton Road, Exeter, Devon EX2 8HF Registered Charity Number 1161554.'

Wording for a Pecuniary gift (a specified amount)

'I give the sum of [£ in words and numbers] absolutely to VETERANS WITH DOGS, 2 Northleigh House, Thorverton Road, Exeter, Devon EX2 8HF , Registered Charity Number 1161554 and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or any other proper authorised officer of any charity benefitting under my Will shall be a sufficient discharge for my Trustees who shall not be concerned as to the application of any gifts or payment.'

I already have a Will, can I update it to include Veterans With Dogs?

Yes. You can add a codicil for any minor changes to your Will, including the addition of a charity. When you speak to your solicitor they will advise you if a codicil is the best option. If there are several changes to make it may be more appropriate to re-write your Will - which doesn't cost much more.

Can I specify how I would like my gift to be used?

Yes. You are more than welcome to designate your gift to be used for a specific purpose. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

Will my gift be taxed?

No. Gifts to charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax and this can be a way of reducing exposure of your estate to tax. For more information, visit the HM Revenue & Customs website.

How much does a gift have to be to make a real difference?

Every gift can make a positive difference to the future of VWD and the lives of people with mental health difficulties. It is what these gifts can achieve that makes them so important and so appreciated. Nothing is too small to help make a difference.
