For Brigadier Simon Young, art featured strongly as a youngster. Whilst in the Armed Forces Simon found time to get the brushes out; being a 'soldier and painter' worked with many subjects to hand. Deployments to trouble spots generated interesting opportunities for a sketch or more detailed studies. Moving around made oil painting awkward, so working in watercolour became the norm. Simon's studio is in Saltash overlooking the Tamar.
Now retired, he has the time to explore what works using this exciting medium as he explores the South West's towns, cities and estuaries. He has won awards at the Patchings Artists’ national exhibition in Nottingham and at the Mall Galleries, London.
As a veteran Simon donates proceeds of sales to Service charities. Open Studios offers the ideal opportunity for this; his studio will be open to the public 26 August to 3 September 2023. This year he is raising money for Veterans With Dogs (VWD) and 40% of sales will be donated to the charity.
If you can’t visit the exhibition please consider sending a cheque to him made out to Veterans With Dogs with the completed Gift Aid Form or make an on-line donation to justgiving.com/page/simon-young-paintings.
